Isuochi Progressive Union

Isuochi Progressive Union is a nonprofit organization located in Thousand Oaks, California. Our focus is helping impoverished, rural communities by providing medical clinics. This improves the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people who would otherwise be left without essential medical care.  We recently started a rural clinic in a rented facility that is serving Isuochi, a community of about 100,000 people. We are currently seeking grant assistance to expand the clinic’s services through the purchase of essential medical equipment and funding to contribute to our operating costs.

Mission Statement

IPU-USA will participate to its ability in furthering the development of Isuochi, our place of origin, and promoting the welfare of its people.

The rural community of Isuochi has no viable access to medical care. People are dying from very treatable and preventable diseases. Our efforts are literally saving lives.

  • Medical care in Isuochi is almost non-existent.
  • Abandoned efforts to resuscitate local Community Hospital.
  • Our people continue to die from treatable and preventable diseases.

Projects and Programs

Our current project focus is a rural medical facility. It is currently in a temporary location and our goal is to construct a permanent facility, with a 10-20 bed hospital as our final goal. Our clinic in Isuochi, Nigeria currently serves 100 patients per week and the need for service expansion is great. Services which will be provided include the following:

  • General medical care
  • Outpatient care
  • Basic health screening
  • Medicine dispensary
  • Basic laboratory services
  • Health Education and Awareness programs
  • Basic maternity services
  • Provide reading glasses and vision care
  • Dental services

Our plans include the purchase of clinic equipment, medicine, generator and solar system to provide electricity, water, facility construction expenses, and drilling of a bore hole for the permanent structure. The following video gives a more thorough glimpse into this project and the work that we do:

Our clinic is currently operational in the temporary facility. Our goal now is to build the permanent facility so that we can expand our services into a hospital. We have the following timeline in mind for our progress:

  • Obtain land for construction of the clinic
  • Begin construction
  • Complete construction
  • Ship hospital equipment and materials
  • Move into the new facility
  • Upgrade to a 10-20 bed hospital

We are already in process of obtaining some of our needs through our outreach efforts with various organizations such as the Doctors, Nurses and Lab Technicians in Nigeria, Federal Ministry of Health, and other similar organizations operating clinics in Nigeria for the following:

  • Medical equipment
  • Vision care equipment
  • Laboratory equipment
  • Dental equipment
  • Drug list
